Exchange of Notes for Landscaping of the Guyana International Conference Center (GICC) compound and Training of Staff Signed
The Exchange of Notes for the Landscaping of the Guyana International Conference Center (GICC) compound was signed by the Hon. Dr. Henry Jeffrey, Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, and H.E. Jungao Zhang, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, on February 9, 2007.
Under the Exchange of Notes, the Government of China will provide ninety thousand (US$90,000) US dollars or seven hundred thousand and ten (¥700,010) RMB Yuan, to the Government of Guyana, from grant aid funds available under the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, between the Governments of Guyana and China, which was signed on October 2, 2004.
The funds will be utilized for the completion of the landscaping of the Conference Center compound, which has commenced by the landscaping firm BEN-TIC Landscaping.
The Exchange of Notes for the Training of the Managerial Staff of the Conference Center was also signed recently by Dr. Jeffrey and Ambassador Zhang. This signing took place on January 30, 2007.
The Exchange of Notes facilitates the dispatch of a delegation of six Chinese technicians and administrators to Guyana, to provide guidance on the operation and maintenance of the equipment at the Conference Center, as well as train the staff on management, reception, and service. The delegation is expected to arrive in Guyana later this month, for a period of six (6) weeks.
The cost of this project will amount to some sixty-nine thousand (US$69,000) US dollars or five hundred and fifty thousand (¥550,000) RMB Yuan. This amount will also be paid out of grant aid funds under the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation.
The signing of these Exchange of Notes comes at a time when Guyana is preparing to host the Rio Group Heads of Government Summit, scheduled for February 28 to March 3, 2007. The Guyana International Conference Centre will serve as the venue for this momentous occasion for Guyana.
The People’s Republic of China is one of Guyana’s major bilateral partners. The two countries have maintained a very active and successful bilateral cooperation programme over the last three decades.
In June this year, Guyana and China will celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
